Roger Federer's 2017 Gear

Roger Federer's 2017 Gear

For Roger Federer, the Australian Open 2017 meant winning a record-extending and historic 18th Men’s Singles Grand Slam title. After a six-month lay-off caused by a knee trouble, he started the season at No. 16, but then faced his old rival, Rafael Nadal, in the AO final, taking breathtaking victory after three hours and 37 minutes in dramatic fifth set. He became the first man to take five or more titles at three Grand Slam events, and became the second-oldest player to win a major singles trophy in history.

Dubai Tennis Championship followed and Federer surprisingly lost to world no. 116, Evgeny Donskoy, in the second round. Curiously, this was his only loss in 14 matches.

Then, Indian Wells Masters began. Federer presented a killer high-speed backhand, dominated his way to the finals and defeated his fellow countryman, Stan Wawrinka, in two sets, only to win a record-equaling fifth title in Indian Wells and the 90th title of his whole career. Indian Wells victory was also a historical one, as at the age of 35 (just five months before his 36th birthday), he became the oldest tennis player to win a Masters series event.

Miami Open followed and the Swiss powered his way to the final, claiming his third victory in 2017. He defeated Nadal in two sets, making it his fourth consecutive victory over him, his third Miami title and his 26th ATP Masters 1000 title.

We witnessed “one of the best comebacks ever on the ATP Tour after a long injury”, to quote Nadal after the final match in Miami. Roger defied time, enemy of every sportsmen, expectations, and he showed younger players what brilliance and class under hot Melbourne and Miami suns look like. He was his old self, but improved (world-class footwork, killer backhand, perfect serves), and he had slick gear and outfit to make it a complete package worth admiring.

Laser perforations on the back promote breathability, and the fabric wicks away the moisture. It’s designed to fit nicely on the body and help the player stay distraction-free.
